Reggie Wayne     XR: 12   CR: 13   BW: 6

Projections:  ReceivingYDs 1,328 (1310)  ReceivingTDs 9 (9)

Wayne's numbers dropped significantly last year as the Colts ran the ball far more than was expected.  With James gone we expect Manning and Co. to once again fill the air with footballs.  While we don't look for 2004 kind of numbers, we certainly look for more than the 5TDs that Wayne finished with last year.  Keep in mind that even in 2004 there were 6 games where Wayne failed to hit 50yds, so prepare yourself for the occasional disappearance.  (Interestingly that number dropped to 4 such games last year.)

In many ways, wide receiver numbers are the most difficult to predict in fantasy football.  Limited opportunities, weather, QB injury or just plain old QB ineptitude are just some of the factors that must be taken into consideration when projecting WR performance.  While we didn't see Marques Colston coming out of nowhere last year (who did?)  we did correctly predict that T.O. would lead the NFL in TD catches as well as predicting that players like Steve Smith and Santana Moss (see QB ineptitude) were over-rated.  The analysis of Reggie Wayne below is what we told our readers about him in June of 2006.  The numbers in parenthesis after our projections are his final numbers for the 2006 season.  The XR is where we had him ranked before the season began, and the CR is the "consensus ranking" of 25 other fantasy experts.
